This full-page illustration was a speculative brief for The Wine Spectator to accompany an article titled “Passport to Value.” The piece explores the best value wines from around the world, highlighting the diversity, quality, and stories behind global wine regions.
My approach was to take subtle travel cues intermixed with striking visuals created from the liquid of the wine to describe the countries or regions the wine originates from.

Below are the three initial rough sketches. Each one varying in use of travel references and nods to wine. The selected route to develop was chosen for it's human element and tasting the wine.
